Progress

I have now torn down all the drywall and plaster in the bathtub area of the downstairs bathroom. I've also fixed the sink drain pipe to stop a leak. I'm going to set up something temporary in the bathroom so I can use the shower, at least until the upstairs one is complete.

I've ripped the carpet up in the living and dining rooms. Several of the floorboards will need to be replaced and some work will need to be done with the joists and sill in the dining room. Likely the window will be taken out and any repairs to the wall will be done at that time.

There's currently a very old, crumbling chimney that will need to be taken down. Since it's on the top of a steep 2nd story roof, I'm looking for a local contractor who can remove the chimney down below the roofline and patch the roof. I will then remove the rest of it from inside the house. When I get it below the 2nd floor, I'll then remove the wall between the two bedrooms upstairs and start construction on the bedwalls. I'm still uncertain as of yet what I'll be doing downstairs.

Cable has been installed so starting Friday morning I'll have a computer and one or two cams operating there. Likely I'll use my wireless cam for one so I can haul it around the house to monitor wherever I happen to be working, and one of the cheapie usb cams for what will eventually become my office. I'll take the digital cam with me too and get some pictures before I do too much work.

Likely early next week I'll go for a permit to add on the utility room. Construction on that room will begin probably early next month. I'll be getting the house jacks on the 28th so I can do the needed leveling of the house at that time. Once the utility room is built, I'll be running ductwork around the house. The downstairs bathroom will be rebuilt as well, but likely fixtures will not be installed right away, or maybe only a sink and toilet.

I will then push to finish up the upstairs bedrooms. The kitchen will be furnished with cheap appliances for now. I intend to rebuild most of the kitchen as the floor and walls are thin, but that's a lower priority and will wait possibly until next spring, depending on the weather.

First day

Today was the first day I spent working on the house. I've got water, electricity and phone all working at the place. Cable I intend to have installed in the next couple days so I can have internet access. When the water was turned on, one of the outside faucets had a leak, so I replaced that. The lock on the front door has been replaced by one that is slightly more secure. It will hold until the front door gets replaced. The downstairs bathroom is temporarily functional. That room will eventually be torn down and rebuilt when I build the utility room, but until I get the upstairs bathroom functional, I have at least one working.

The floor in the dining room has some water damage. I will be pulling out several of the floorboards and replacing those, along with adding an extra joist for support as one of the joints has some damage. I'll be ripping out the carpet in the living and dining room and will wait until repairs are done in those rooms before putting anything new for carpet or hardwood flooring.

I'll have some minor modifications to make to the upstairs bedrooms as I don't have as much room between the two doorways as I thought, so the bedwalls I was going to build in both rooms will have to be redesigned slightly.
